Not too much going on on this Thanksgiving Eve. Harrison is in bed already. I’m in the middle of making some oatmeal rolls…mmmmm, one of my favorites at the holidays.
We’ll be joining some gracious friends and their family tomorrow to share in a Thanksgiving celebration.
We truly have so much to be thankful for.
And, I read today over on Jody’s blog that Water For Christmas hit $10,000 sometime today. That means TWO wells! Two wells for two communities that do not have clean water today. Soon they will. How awesome is that?
Jody also has a challenge for us as we approach Black Friday. I am in! I really can’t stand shopping on Black Friday anyway, but now it really has a new meaning for me. I saw a commercial tonight for a store opening TOMORROW at 7:00 am. What? A few years ago it was 7:00 on Friday morning. Then it became 6:00 am. Then 4:00 am. Last year I heard of stores opening at midnight. And now Thanksgiving Day?
Let’s at least give Thanksgiving the respect it deserves. To stop and share a meal, and a day, with those we love. To think about how much we truly have to be thankful for.
I really have no idea who this guy is, but I think this is hilarious.
Well, our “weekend” is coming to a close tonight. Bummer. It always goes so fast. But it’s always a good day when you get an escrow reimbursement check for $75 from your mortgage company, and a statement showing your house payment will actually go down by a couple bucks each month starting in January. :) That was a nice surprise.
I have some pictures I need to put up-will try to do that tomorrow. Not too much else going on. Just getting ready for Thanksgiving and a few extra days together as a family. Looking forward to that.
Good night, Muscatine.
Why does my neighbor have the need to have his leaf blower on during Harrison’s nap time…everyday? It is so loud.
Seriously. Everyday.
If Harrison wants to get up on something (chair, bed, couch, etc.) he says “Mine on! Mine on! Mine on!”
He seems to constantly ask where his friends, or daddy, are. “Ere daddy?” I tell him he’s at work. “Ere Jack?” I tell him he’s at home with his mommy and daddy. “Ere Babi?” (his friend Abi). I tell him she’s at home with her mommy and daddy. Then he starts over with daddy…you get the picture. :) He is a very social kid, always concerned about his friends and where they are.
If he wants to hold something (usually the camera, remote, computer, phone, etc) he says “I old it! I old it!”
We had a bit of a breakdown today at nap time. We seem to have lost his Sheriff car, which is his favorite from the Cars series. He doesn’t take a blankie to bed with him, he takes Sheriff to bed with him and cuddles with him. We actually lost it several days ago, but he didn’t notice until today, which really surprised me. I have looked everywhere, and was going to get another one tonight at Walmart. He started asking “Ere Eriff?” (where’s Sheriff?) I tried explaining to him that I couldn’t find him, but we’d get another one soon. That DID NOT cut it. He was very upset. He wanted to look for Eriff, so we looked. Everywhere. Even out in the van. I think that helped him understand that he wasn’t around. So, he got another car, which he calls “Jack” since it looks a little like Jack’s mommy’s car. And he went to sleep a little while later.
And I’m going to Walmart before church to get another Eriff. ![]()
Just for the sake of simplicity, Kelly and I have both gone on separate outings this week, by ourselves. They were both kind of last minute things, we both needed some “me” time at different times, and someone has to stay home with the kid.
So, Wednesday night I went up to QC to do a little reading at Starbucks. Just me and a book and a vanilla latte. Yum.
Tonight Kelly went to Iowa City. He first got a load of wings and took them to the U of I Hospital to share with some friends who has someone close to them there (we’re praying for you, Jessie!). He was then going to go to the new James Bond movie.
Harrison and I had a fun evening together. He is really starting to say quite a bit more, and I have to really pay attention. He will repeat something several times and then I will usually get it. And today, for the first time, he sang the alphabet song with me. He didn’t say all the letters, of course, but he had the tune down pat, and he would get some of them right. In between the right ones, he would just repeat the vowels over and over again.
He is just so stinking cute, I can’t stand it sometimes. Believe me, we have our moments. And lately, we have been having more. And I blow it. And I need frequent breaks. But I love him so much, and am so proud to be his mommy. I find it such an honor to be able to stay home. I really can’t imagine doing anything differently right now.
That’s it for now. Night.
I stole this clip from a friend’s blog, but it is just perfect. Very timely. The guy speaking is Rob Bell, from Mars Hill Church in Grand Rapids, MI. He does these short videos under the Nooma name, but they really are thought-provoking. Please watch:
He’s not saying these things to make you feel guilty. He’s not saying these things because he thinks we’re better than others. He’s saying them for awareness. So people know. So people know there’s a need. So people will take action.
