This is the first Saturday in years that Kelly has had off (besides a vacation day). Even before he started at church full-time, he was usually there on Saturdays doing sound stuff. We’ve just gotten used to him being at church all day getting ready for the weekend, and having Mondays off. It’s just different having a Saturday off, though, for some reason.
Church is just having one service this weekend at Weed Park for our Summer’s End Celebration, so Kelly got today off. We did some things around the house, I went to the store, he mowed, we grilled, we played with Harrison. It was a fun day. Getting ready to go to bed, though, because he has to be at the park at 6:00 am to get ready for the 10:00 am service. The break was nice while it lasted.
Took Harrison to his 2 year check-up, and everything looked great. He’s 35 1/2 inches tall, and weighs 30 lbs. (one is the 75th percentile, the other 80th). He was being a ham for the nurses, doing somersaults, jumps and just being silly.
After that, we stopped at Stuff (his dr. is in Iowa City) and found a few things for fall. I then went out to Williamsburg to go to Carter’s. I found some great deals! I got $145 worth of clothes (the retail amount) for $42! They were having great sales, and I had a 20% off coupon. Well worth the trip. Now I just need to find him a winter coat. I bought one at the end of winter last year, but for some silly reason I got a 3T thinking he would be able to wear it this winter and next. Well, it is huge, and I AM NOT spending a bunch of money on a winter coat. The ones I’ve seen so far are $75-$110…not happening. There is a new consignment shop in Davenport that I’m going to soon…hopefully they will have something.
Harrison fell asleep early on Friday after not taking a nap all day, even through all of the driving! So, it was a pretty quiet evening.
We all had a good night’s sleep and a dry morning, so the tape worked. We had tried so many things…one piece sleepers (which he managed to un-zip or un-snap); he sleeps with a blanket, but isn’t real attached to it…among some other things. I think it came down to him liking the sound of the velcro when he un-did the tabs on his diapers. Who knows. We’re going to try this for a couple more nights and then see if it broke the habit for good.
So Harrison has been REALLY messing with his diaper lately when we put him to bed…I mean like taking the tabs apart, pushing it down, and just messing with it until it gets all bunched up and sometimes rips. Last night Kelly went in there after he heard him messing with it, and he had it completely off. Sometimes I go in there and he is pretty much sleeping, but still messing with it. It wouldn’t be a big deal, but he’s been waking up around 1:00 some nights with a wet bed. If it doesn’t wake him up in the middle of the night, he is even more wet in the morning. We have tried many times to get him to stop, but nothing has helped.
Tonight we took a drastic measure…duct tape. Just one small strip around so he couldn’t get the tabs undone, or push it down. When we put it on, he was seriously mad at us…maybe more confused as to why he couldn’t find the tabs. But I haven’t heard any rustling sounds through the monitor, so I think it might be working! We’ll see how it goes. ![]()
I still can’t really believe Harrison is now two…just seems weird to say it. Anyway, here’s some pics from the last few days.
We saved this gift for him to open on his birthday; it’s a little remote control car. He loves it!
