doing better

Amy | Uncategorized | 0 Comments

I think Harrison is finally on the mend.  It’s been almost 3 days since he’s had a bad diaper or thrown up and his tooth finally broke through the gum on Friday night, although it was really hurting again yesterday afternoon.  I think we can deal with that, though.  I’m just glad he’s over his sickness before we have to travel on Tuesday.

They cancelled church this morning because of bad weather (the second time this winter already!) so Kelly was home this morning.  We’re trying to get everything ready to go today…cleaning (I refuse to come home to a dirty house), packing, wrapping, etc…  Tomorrow will be fairly busy with church and we want to spend some time together as a family on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning, so I’m trying to get everything ready today.  Looking forward to the next few days and being with family!

Merry Christmas!!

sick…

Harrison has been sick off and on since Friday…throwing up and all that good stuff…hence the lack of posts lately.  He’s been to the dr. twice now and they came to the conclusion he has rotavirus.  I was concerned about him getting dehydrated, but he’s doing ok that way.  He has also been working on some very stubborn molars, so we haven’t had a very happy camper lately.  I am hoping we’re on the tail end of the sickness.  He’ll seem to be getting better, and then he’ll get worse again.  I know he’s tired of it, and I just feel so bad for him.  And Kelly and I are getting kind of worn out, too.  We’ve been having to do a lot of laundry.  :)  Anyway, he should be better by this weekend for sure, just in time for all the Christmas stuff.  We’re leaving on Tuesday to go back home, so I really hope he’s all better by then.

Fun times

We ran to McDonald’s tonight for supper and let Harrison play in the little toddler area they have there.  He just kept going up the steps, and down the slide, up the steps, and down the slide, up the….well, you get the idea.  He loved it!

Daddy and son

On Monday, Harrison didn’t get a very good nap.  When we got home from some shopping he fell asleep, but it was like 5 in the evening and I didn’t want him to sleep to long.  I had Kelly get him up about 6, but he did not want to wake up.  It made for some cute pics.

I found this article on the web-site of the Lincoln paper.  I just thought it was great that the son of this victim is reaching out to others, even through his grief.

Iced In

Amy | Uncategorized | 0 Comments

It is very yucky out today…icy, rainy, yucky.  They closed the schools, and so the church office closed, too, which means Kelly is home.  I’m glad he didn’t have to go out in it.  He’s not feeling too well, so I don’t know if he would have gone anyway.  We’re praying that our tree in the back yard and the house don’t get damaged by the ice.  We’ve had it scheduled to get trimmed, but that hasn’t happened yet.  Every time we get ice we hold our breath.  We always get small branches that break off, and we’re hoping the large ones stay put.  :)

I’m trying to get some cleaning done, and maybe some baking.  Fun stuff.  :)  I am looking forward to baking for Christmas this year.  I haven’t done it for two years (two years ago I was pregnant and not feeling well and last year we were getting ready to move), and I really enjoy doing it.  It’s kind of a stress-reliever for me.  We’ll see how much  I get done.

Hope everyone can stay inside today and that you don’t lose power!!

Close to Home

This mall shooting in Omaha has hit close to home.  I just got done reading about all of the victims- who they were, where they were from, etc.  Six of them were employees of the Von Maur and two were shoppers.  All but two lived in Omaha, one lived in Lincoln and the other in Council Bluffs, right across the Missouri River from Omaha.  I didn’t know any of the victims, but it feels really different to have it happen in a place you know, in a town where you have family and friends living, in a town where your parents go to shop sometimes.  Kelly actually lived just blocks from this mall for a short time in college.

And I have a cousin that I grew up with that is a manager at the Bath and Body Works at the mall where it happened.  She was working at the time and people were running by her store.  Her store must not be far from the Von Maur because that’s where they were running from.  She got them inside and everyone into the back room and shut the front gate.  How scary.  I am so glad she’s ok.

And I can’t help but think of this guy who did this horrific thing.  Was he so different from people I see at Wal-Mart or a mall in the Quad Cities?  I heard an interview today on tv and some lady was calling him a ‘loser’.  Was he a loser because he had lost his job?  No.  Was he a loser because his girlfriend broke up with him?  No.  Or because he was tossed around in foster homes?  This isn’t something that he did because of those two events…this is something that has been brewing inside of him for years because of rejection, disappointments, and who knows what else.  Believe me, I am not condoning what he did…there’s no excuse for that.  I guess it’s just a reminder to me that it’s that much more important to pay attention to those who may not get it elsewhere, who are the ‘loners’.  He was staying with a family who was trying to help him out.  I don’t know…it’s really just such a tragedy that he felt he needed to end his life and those of others because he didn’t measure up to society’s expectations.  Just rambling.  Praying for the victim’s families tonight as they are grieving.  Not one of the victims knew this was going to take place yesterday when they woke up…it was just another day for them.
