For those of you interested, The Food Network is going to be airing a show that is going to include Muscatine in its travels. The episode of Feasting on Asphalt that features Muscatine will air tomorrow night (Saturday the 1st) at 8 pm central. There are re-runs throughout the next week as well if you miss it or don’t get it recorded. I think it will be really neat to see Muscatine on the Food Network!
Something else that was brought up at our ladies’ night…we have some pretty interesting conversations…was potty training and how little boys can miss the target. Maybe this is what all households with little boys need. :)
We had a girls’ night out at group tonight and had great conversation and enjoyed a meal together. Somehow we started talking about medical conditions and I brought up my sweaty palms and feet (it is actually called hyperhidrosis). I’ve had this problem since I was a kid and it goes beyond having sweaty palms when you’re nervous. At times I actually have sweat dripping from my hands for no apparent reason. I can’t go barefoot in the house because I slip on the wood floor. I can only wear sandals for a short period of time (like an hour or two). When I was in school I would get sweat all over my papers and that’s not good if you’re a perfectionist. I re-did many papers. And I won’t even start about gym or music class where we had to stand in a circle and hold hands. I know….boo hoo. I actually saw something on Oprah one time about it. Dr. Oz said if I soak my feet and hands in tea for a certain time period a day for a week I think it is suppose to control it. I need to try that…I have tried several things before that haven’t helped. I really want to try it, but I just don’t have time to make tea, sit down for 10 minutes twice a day and soak my hands and feet in it.
Anyway, making a short story long…after I got home tonight I thought of a funny story that I can blame on my sweaty feet. One time we were back home in NE and I washed a pair of sandals in my in-law’s washer. I had to wash them every so often because they get stinky from my feet sweating. Anyway, we were heading to a graduation party. My feet started sweating on the way there, and apparently the soap did not get all the way out of the cloth on the sandals. I had bubbles forming on my feet and on the sandals. This made me very irritated. I made Kelly stop at a store so I could run in and get a new pair of sandals. I was not going to a graduation party with bubbles coming off of my shoes…it was very uncomfortable and I was slipping and sliding everywhere. :) Just thinking about it makes me want to go make some tea.
Harrison and I were playing this mornig and he picked up a block that was yellow. I said, “Yellow block” and he put it up to his ear. It took me a second, but I figured out he thought I said “Hello?”. It was cute, and it reminded me of my Grandma Osburn. When she answered the phone it always sounded more like “Yel-low”, instead of “Hello”.
We had a busy day…went to Iowa City with Nana and Papa and saw them off back to Lincoln, went to the mall for a while when we were there, drove up to Cedar Rapids to go to Sam’s Club, drove back home, fixed supper, picked up a bit, and now off to bed. Harrison and I are headed back to Iowa City tomorrow for his 12 month check up and to drop some things off at Stuff consignment shop.. a few things that didn’t sell at the garage sale that I’m hoping to get a little money out of. I hope to put some pictures of the party up tomorrow. Thanks to everyone for making it such a special day for us and for Harrison!
He’s changed a little, don’t you think? I think we’ve already forgotten how tiny he was. A year ago today we were getting to know our little newborn boy. I cannot believe how fast a year can go by. It has been a year full of changes (diapers and otherwise), adjusting, more adjusting, laughter, tears, joy, exhaustion, proud moments of new discoveries…the list could go on. We are so proud to be Harrison’s parents. He has brought us so much happiness and are so thankful that he is a happy and healthy baby. He brings smiles to people wherever we go. It is so much fun to see him discover new things each day, and we are so excited to see what God has in store for this little boy. We can’t wait to see how his ’story’ plays out and to see what God has planned for him.
Harrison, we love you through and through…yesterday, today and tomorrow too. (This is from one of our favorite books.)
God, You know the plans you have for Harrison, plans to prosper him and not to harm him, plans to give him hope and a future. Cause Harrison to call upon you and come and pray to you, and then listen to him, O Lord. Let him seek you with all of his heart, and find you when he does seek you. (Jeremiah 29:11-13).
Happy 1st Birthday, Harrison!
So I think our attempt at the cake turned out pretty well. It’s definetely not perfect, but for our first attempt, I’d say it’s good. I know what I would do differently next time. We had fun, too. Ok, so Kelly would tell you that when I was frustrated when the frosting wouldn’t turn out the color that I needed it too, and I was slamming the bowls down on the counter, I wasn’t having fun, but overall it was good. ![]()
not just the weather (which was absolutely beautiful, especially after the heat we’ve had), but we had such a great evening together. Kelly left work at 4 and we went up to the Quad Cities to eat at Centro. We ate outside and listened to the Andrew Landers Project band play. It was perfect- we had a great meal, Harrison had fun be-bopping to the music, and Kelly and I enjoyed each other’s company. Then we found out some friends of ours from church paid for our whole dinner without us knowing it! Kelly sent our check off with the debit card and our server came back said “That guy at the other table paid for it.” Wow!! What a nice surprise. That, along with finding out our truck does not need to be repaired right now (which we thought was going to be $300-400) and finding out a prescription was only $16 instead of the $100 that I was expecting, and we’ve had a really good couple of days. Now I’m off to finish cleaning and getting ready for Harrison’s 1st birthday on Sunday. Kelly and I are going to decorate his “Cars” cake and cupcakes tomorrow. We’ll see how it goes!
We went to the skybridge tonight in the QC- like I said, it was a beautiful evening!!
